Meridian Database
A public index of US-China economic and scientific cooperation
Overview
Meridian is dedicated to positive international relations. Its broader goal is to make cooperation the visible default of a species that intends to last forever, together, on this planet and ultimately beyond. The Meridian Database is the project's first concrete instrument: a public index of US-China economic and scientific cooperation, the relationship that most shapes whether this century is shared or split.
Indexes
- Partnership Index: verified corporate and institutional cooperation records.
- Entity Index: detailed profiles for the US and Chinese partner entities in the dataset.
- Research Index: categorized records of co-authored breakthrough scientific research.
- Regulatory Index: a planned index of laws and regulations governing cross-border business and trade compliance.
The live database makes partnerships, joint research, and institutional ties searchable and ranked. Partnership records include a Significance Rating on a 0-100 scale, while public references and entity profiles provide context for the relationships being tracked.
Current public-beta totals are 66 verified partnership records, 117 partner entities, and 56 verified research records. The dashboard also presents analytical context, including an estimated cumulative economic value of approximately $1.6T, around 17,764 research papers, and a mean significance score of 68. Economic-value and research-paper figures are estimates for context and are not used in the Significance Rating.
Why US-China first
Meridian begins with US-China cooperation because how the world's two largest scientific and industrial systems treat one another will shape more of humanity's future than almost any other pairing. That focus is a starting point, not the boundary of the mission: Meridian cares about the world as a whole.
